We scan the crypto landscape for gaps, inefficiencies, patterns, and emerging opportunities. Our observations become short theses: a few sentences on why a particular area matters. During this exploratory phase, we focus on volume, drawing on market signals, trends, and operational experience across the crypto ecosystem.
We subject our most promising theses to rigorous analysis. Our detailed investment documents cover the value proposition, target problems, product mechanics, market timing, and competitive landscape. The strongest concepts become full founder pitch decks, with narratives compelling enough to convince top talent to leave their jobs and build from scratch. This is where we separate signal from noise.
Every potential company faces meticulous scrutiny before it gets funded. We prepare a detailed investment memo focused on risks and mitigation strategies, then present it alongside the founder pitch to the Defy Investment Committee. They vet the materials with the same rigor as they would an outside pitch. If an idea can't withstand hard questions on market risk, execution complexity, and competitive dynamics, it doesn't move forward.
Once we secure approval, we move fast. Using our network and dedicated search firm, we recruit exceptional founding teams, typically beginning with a CEO and CTO. Once they sign on, we handle entity formation and banking, and deploy initial capital to get the company running. From there, every decision serves the same goal: getting a real product in front of real users, as quickly as possible.
